Fully Funded PhD Admission for Fall 2023 at Yin Long Laboratory, Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo

The CEADs team at The University of Tokyo is recruiting outstanding PhD students for research on the carbon footprint of household consumption behavior and the spatial distribution of urban carbon footprints.

The laboratory encourages students to actively apply for internal and external scholarships as well as tuition waivers. Full scholarship support includes three years of doctoral tuition and a living allowance of approximately 1.44 million JPY per year. Note: the combined amount of scholarship support and laboratory subsidy must not exceed the limit set by the university.

Department: Yin Long Laboratory, Graduate School of Engineering

Program: After completing the doctoral program in the Graduate School of Engineering and successfully defending the dissertation, students will be awarded a Doctor of Engineering degree. The program lasts three years.

Eligibility

1. Applicants should hold a master degree in a field related to the laboratory research background, such as environmental economics, data science, climate economics, geographic information science, or another relevant discipline.

2. In principle, applicants should have a TOEFL score above 95, or an equivalent level of English proficiency. This requirement may be relaxed for applicants with outstanding research achievements. Japanese language proficiency is not required.

3. Experience publishing in SCI-indexed English journals is required. Students proficient in at least one programming language will be given priority.

4. Applicants must pass the unified summer 2023 entrance examination, including English and mathematics. Applicants are advised to contact the supervisor in advance to discuss the research plan and details.

Supervisor

Associate Professor Yin Long

Associate Professor and doctoral supervisor at the Graduate School of Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, The University of Tokyo. He is an Excellent Research Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and an Excellent Researcher at The University of Tokyo. He received his PhD in Environmental Studies from The University of Tokyo in 2019. He previously worked at the National Institute for Environmental Studies in Japan, Tokyo University of Science, and other research institutions. Over the past five years, he has published more than 60 SCI/SSCI-indexed papers in journals including One Earth, a Cell Press journal, and Nature Climate Change, a Nature portfolio journal. His current research focuses on the carbon footprint of household consumption behavior and the spatial distribution of urban carbon footprints.
