Introduction to the International Input-Output Association

The International Input-Output Association (IIOA) was formally established in 1988. Its academic origins can be traced to the theory of input-output analysis founded in the 1930s and 1940s by Wassily Leontief, winner of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. After input-output research gradually attracted attention from scholars and policymakers around the world in the 1950s, the international community began to hold regular academic seminars and exchanges in this field, laying the foundation for the establishment of the IIOA.

The International Input-Output Association is an international academic organization dedicated to advancing research, practice, and cross-border exchange in input-output analysis. Its members include experts and scholars from government departments, research institutes, universities, international organizations, and the business community, covering economics, the environment, society, and other fields. The IIOA regularly organizes academic conferences, seminars, and training activities, providing a platform for knowledge sharing and cooperation among researchers and policymakers. It also publishes academic journals and related literature, promoting the application of input-output analysis in policymaking, industry research, sustainable development, and global supply chain management. By bringing together input-output experts from around the world, the IIOA plays an important role in deepening multidisciplinary research, strengthening cross-field collaboration, and cultivating the next generation of talent.
