Yuli Shan
Prof. Yuli Shan is a professor at the University of Birmingham, UK. He is the Sustainable Lead at the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences (GEES), and is a member of Steering Research Committee of the Birmingham Institute for Sustainability and Climate Action (BISCA). He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, a Highly Cited Researcher (since 2020), Coordinating Lead Author of China’s Fifth National Climate Change Assessment Report, and Contributing Author of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report.
He graduated from Fudan University and the University of East Anglia, and has previously worked at the University of Groningen. His focuses on multi-scale greenhouse gas emission accounts. He co-founded the China Emission Accounts and Datasets (CEADs) and conducts interdisciplinary research on climate change mitigation and regional sustainable development, providing data and theoretical support for net-zero policies.
He has published over 170 SCI/SSCI papers in high-impact journals, including Nature/Science/Cell entitled journals, Science Bulletin, Engineering, and ES&T. 30 of his papers are ESI Highly Cited Papers, and 19 are ESI Hot Papers. His Google Scholar citations exceed 19,000, with an h-index of 62.
He has led or participated in multiple projects funded by the Royal Society, UKRI, EU Horizon Programme, and NSFC. He has received over 30 academic awards, including the Global Top 2% Scientist, Green Talents Award (Germany), Best Young Researcher from the Chinese Society for Industrial Ecology, and the Founders’ Award from the University of Birmingham. He is an editor for journals such as Science Bulletin, Sustainable Futures, and Scientific Data, and serves as a board member of the ISIE Sustainable Urban Systems Section and executive council member of the China Input-Output and Big Data Society.
