1. Objectives and Missions

Applied Energy Summer School (AEss), aims tobuild an academic, professional and persistent community for young scholars andexperts by providing training courses, teamwork projects, plant touropportunities and career development. The missions of AEss are:

  • Co-location fosters collaboration, innovation and multi-disciplinary comprehension through face-to-facecommunication and training courses
  • Collaboration leads to creative integration and system solutions to complex problems by exploringlinkages among different energy system components and developing a framework ofsystem integration
  • Career development shapes the future of youth with interactive exchange with editors, entrepreneurs,product producers, decision makers and investors

In 2017, AEss will work with CEADs (China EmissionAccounts and Datasets, www.ceads.net) together. CEADs gathers a group of experts fromthe UK, USA and China to work on China’s emission accounting methods and applications.Providing accurate and most up-to-date emission data is the duty of the whole academicfield for policy stakeholders and the public.

2. Scope and Tasks

The scope for the AEss 2017 is city-level CO2emissions accounts in China, as well as multi-view data and visualization.

Cities are central to global climate change mitigationand the implementation of low-carbon development strategies. The main objectiveof the summer school is to understand a feasible methodology for constructing territorial CO2 emissions inventories for generic Chinese cities. By applying thismethodology, students will calculate the CO2 emissions for citiesalong the Yangtze River by groups. This knowledge will be helpful for understandingenergy utilization and identifying key emission contributors and drivers given differentsocioeconomic settings and industrialization phrase for different cities. The technologyof multi-view data and visualization will also be applied during the studies.

3. Program Design

The summer school will be delivered through a combinationof academic lectures, career development module, and team-project-design.

4. Target Audience

AEss invites highly motivated international students(undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students) and young scientists to joinus. We also welcome lectures for the summer school. Experts from KTH RoyalInstitute of Technology, University of EastAnglia, Nanjing Normal University, other well-known international research institutes, and the prestigiouspress like Elsevier and/or Wiley will guide students the training courses, discussions,research and project-design.
